Tour Overview
The tour begins in the magical town of Real del Monte, where you will walk its streets for approximately 4 hours, tasting (at your own expense) the delicious pastes, pulque, and heavy cream bread, tamales, and other varieties of Hidalgo cuisine.
The tour continues with a visit to the English cemetery, where all of the graves are oriented towards England, followed by free time for shopping and lunch. You will then proceed to Huasca de Ocampo, where you will see one of the town's main attractions, the Basaltic Prisms. These prisms are geometric basalt columns that stand 30 meters tall and decorate the walls of the impressive canyon of Santa Mara Regla, which is surrounded by four waterfalls that feed the dam of San Antonio Regla and the Hacienda San Miguel Regla.
This beautiful eighteenth-century hacienda, possibly the most famous in the state, belonged to Pedro Romero de Terreros, Conde de Regla, and was his favorite place to live. Part of the hull has been preserved, as have some of the arches that were part of the courts and the ovens from which the silver could be extracted.
You'll return to Mexico City in the afternoon after finishing the tour.
